Clear aligners straighten teeth with a series of removable, nearly invisible trays, each one moving your teeth a fraction of a millimeter closer to the final plan. They are a good fit for most teens and adults who want treatment that does not show. But “clear aligners” is a category, not a product, and the systems inside it are not interchangeable. This page explains how they differ and how Dr. Bar decides which one to use.
Three Kinds of Clear Aligner

Moon Aligner System. A clear aligner system Dr. Bar co-founded, built around patented biomechanics designed for tooth movements that standard aligners handle poorly, such as rotations, extrusions, and root torque. Mail-order aligners. Direct-to-consumer kits where you take your own impressions and never see a doctor in person. Nobody checks your bite, your roots, or your gum health before teeth start moving. We do not offer these, and we regularly see patients who need corrective treatment after using them.
What Every Good Aligner Case Has in Common
Nearly invisible. Made from clear, medical-grade plastic, so most people will not notice you are wearing them.
Removable. Take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss. No dietary restrictions and no change to your hygiene routine.
Comfortable. Smooth plastic with no brackets or wires to irritate cheeks and gums, and fewer emergency visits.
Digitally planned. Every aligner is designed from a 3D scan, and you see the projected result before treatment begins.
Fewer visits. Check-ins are typically every 6 to 8 weeks instead of every 4 to 6 with braces.
How Treatment Works
1. Consultation. Dr. Bar examines your teeth, bite, and jaw, and takes a digital scan and the X-rays needed to see your roots and bone. Your complimentary consultation includes this evaluation.
2. Treatment plan. Using the scan, Dr. Bar maps every tooth movement in sequence and chooses the aligner system that can deliver it. You review the plan and the projected result.
3. Aligner fabrication. Your full series is made to that plan. Small tooth-colored attachments are sometimes bonded to specific teeth to give the aligner a grip for harder movements.
4. Wearing them. You wear each set 20 to 22 hours a day and move to the next set every one to two weeks as directed.
5. Monitoring. Regular visits confirm the teeth are tracking with the plan. If they drift, we refine the plan rather than hoping it catches up.
6. Retention. When treatment finishes, you receive a 3D printed retainer made in our office to hold the result.
Clear Aligners vs. Braces
What Aligners Can Treat
Crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite can all be treated with aligners when the case is planned correctly. The limiting factor is rarely the diagnosis and usually the mechanics: some movements need more force control than a plain tray can provide. That is where attachments, elastics, and a system engineered for those movements make the difference between a case that finishes and one that stalls.
When Aligners Are Not the Right Choice
Severely impacted teeth, large skeletal discrepancies, and some surgical cases are still better served by braces or combined treatment. Aligners also depend entirely on wear time; a patient who will not wear them 20 hours a day will not get the result, no matter how good the plan. Dr. Bar will tell you plainly at the consultation if aligners are not the right tool for your case.
