After the time and effort you put into orthodontic treatment, protecting the result is the whole point of retention. Our custom 3D printed retainers are designed from a digital scan of your teeth and printed in our in-office lab in Rockwall, TX, so they fit precisely, feel thin and comfortable, and can be reprinted from your saved file whenever you need a replacement.

Why 3D Printed Retainers Fit Better

Traditional retainers are shaped by hand over a stone model, which introduces small inconsistencies. We design each retainer in software from a high-resolution intraoral scan that captures every contour of your teeth, then print it at 50-micron resolution. The result is a retainer that matches your anatomy closely enough to hold every tooth with even, gentle pressure.

Micron-level precision. Printed at resolutions down to 50 microns, the retainer matches the exact geometry of your teeth and prevents unwanted movement.

Superior comfort. Smooth, polished surfaces with no rough edges or pressure points, and far less bulk than a traditional retainer.

Biocompatible materials. Medical-grade, FDA-cleared resins that resist wear and keep their shape and clarity without yellowing.

Nearly invisible. Optically clear material that stays clear for the life of the retainer.

Perfect reproducibility. Your digital scan is stored permanently. If a retainer is lost or damaged, we reprint an identical one without new impressions or an extra appointment.

Fast turnaround. From scan to finished retainer in 24 to 48 hours, not the one to three weeks an outside lab takes.

How We Make Your Retainer

1. Digital scan. An intraoral scanner captures a detailed 3D image of your teeth and bite in seconds. No impression trays, no gagging, no mess.

2. Computer-aided design. Dr. Bar designs the retainer in software, setting thickness, coverage, and retention force for each tooth based on your treatment.

3. 3D printing. Our printers build the retainer layer by layer from photopolymer resin, each layer thinner than a human hair.

4. Post-processing. UV curing hardens the material fully, then precision polishing creates a smooth, comfortable surface. Every retainer is checked before delivery.

5. Fitting. We verify fit and comfort, make any minor adjustments, and archive your file for future replacements.

Why Retention Depends on Fit

A retainer works by applying light, consistent pressure that stops teeth from drifting back toward their original positions. When the fit is exact, that pressure is spread evenly across every tooth, so no single tooth is over- or under-retained. That level of fit is what 3D printing makes possible, and it is why these retainers hold orthodontic results more reliably over the long term.
